Event description:
What happens when particles cease to become separate objects and begin to feel their surrounding neighbors? Understanding this transformation in the presence of strong correlations has remained a difficult question across many branches of physics. I will describe how this few-to-many body question arises in context of strongly interacting atomic Bose gases. Here the occurrence of the Efimov effect introduces an infinity of Borromean few-body bound states destabilizing the system while opening up the possibility of unusual quantum fluids with few-body origins.
