“Unraveling Classical Gravity from Quantum Field Theory”
Abstract: The recent detection of gravitational waves by LIGO/VIRGO has opened a new window into the cosmos. In this talk, I will explain how modern tools in quantum field theory can help solving problems of interest for gravitational wave physics. By harnessing techniques in scattering amplitudes and effective field theory, I will present a systematic framework to calculate the two-body potential for binary black holes. From this framework we obtain the state-of-art Hamiltonian in such calculation.
