Event description:

Daniel Bowring is a scientist at the US Department of Energy’s Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory. His current focus is on the application of quantum information technology to the search for axion dark matter. Fermilab, though, is known for very large-scale projects like the Tevatron, or the upcoming Long-Baseline Neutrino Experiment. What’s it like to work in such an environment? What can you expect from a career in “Big Science”, and how might it differ from the standard academic template? During this meeting of the YPPDO we’ll explore these questions. Dr. Bowring will highlight some upcoming postdoctoral opportunities at Fermilab, and we’ll have an opportunity to discuss issues of inclusivity and diversity in STEM careers, especially as pertaining to Fermilab.
