Yale Physics held an open house for prospective graduate students from March 30-31, 2023.
A record number of applications were submitted to Yale Physics this year, and after selection by the admissions committee, 53 prospective students from around the country and the world visited to explore Yale Physics in person.
The open house started on Thursday night with an optional dinner with Yale Physics graduate students at Barcelona, followed by a board game night at the New Haven Hotel.
On Friday, the open house officially began, with a brief introduction and welcoming remarks from the graduate program team. The visitors were next led on lab tours by volunteer graduate students, met with faculty, and enjoyed lunch at the Elm City Graduate Club. The prospective students then took a walking tour from the New Haven Green back to Sloane Physics Lab so they could get to know the campus before participating in more lab tours and faculty meetings.
Open House culminated at Steep Café with a department-wide poster session and reception, attended by Yale Physics faculty, graduate students, and prospective students. The visitors left Saturday morning gushing about the kindness of the community, the thoroughness of the Open House, and an overall great impression of the program.
The 2023 admissions cycle ended on April 15th, solidifying the class of 2023 with 33 new students admitted and an additional 3 students who deferred last year, who are now ready to join us this fall.
