Sarah Demers, professor of physics and an experimental particle physicist, has been appointed chair of the Yale University Department of Physics. Her term will be for three years, effective July 1, 2025. She succeeds the outgoing chair Karsten Heeger, Eugene Higgins Professor of Physics and director of Wright Lab, who has served as chair since 2019.
In an E-mail to the department of physics dated February 20, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences Steven Wilkinson said, “I am most grateful to Professor Demers for taking on this important leadership position.”
Wilkinson continued, “I also wish to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to outgoing chair Professor Karsten Heeger for his outstanding department leadership.”
