Barkotel Zemenu, ‘24, an undergraduate in physics who does research in Wright Lab’s Moore Group, has been selected as a Lindau Young Scientist and invited to the 73rd Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting (Physics) to join over thirty Nobel Laureates to exchange ideas on the foundations and future of physics. The meeting will be held from June 30 to July 5 on the island of Lindau, Germany.
This year’s class of about 650 Lindau Young Scientists was selected from more than 20,000 applicants across all disciplines; including postdocs, Ph.D. students, and undergraduates from nearly ninety countries.
The multi-stage selection process starts with a nomination from the U.S. Liaison Committee to the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics, which selects a group of U.S. early careers in physics and closely related fields who exemplify excellence in their field and/or are in the top 5% of their class at U.S.-based institutions. Nominees then undergo an in-depth review process, which includes submitting a detailed CV, a series of essays, letters of recommendation, an evaluation of their research accomplishments, and approval by the Lindau meetings organization in Germany.
